Audacity is a free software for creating and editing sound files with ease. One can generate wav or mp3 files using the edited contents of sound file. This software is developed by volunteers in their spare time. Many features have been added from time to time. You can read more about specific features under “Features of audacity” tab.

Audacity runs under Windows. Since this is a software
connected with for audio files, it is a bare minimum requirement that you
have a good quality sound card installed in your PC. A mike is another
thing required with equally good quality. A shielded cable with stereo jack
will also be useful for accepting sound from external devices like tape
recorder, tv or amplifier. More on this shielded cable can be found under the
tab “Converting audio cassettes into CDs”.
One can download the software from the link below. The other download
link for downloading lame_enc.dll is not required to start with. It is
required only when you want to create mp3 files through audacity. |
